But before we start talking about our planet earth, we have a QUIZ for you!

[QUIZ THEME]

Which of these RESOURCES is NOT a NATURAL resource?

Soil

Water

Or

Plastic

To figure it out, let’s learn about what natural resources are.

But first, switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth and keep brushing

[SWITCH BELL]

A natural resource is something that is found in nature. And it’s a resource because we humans and other beings USE it.

Like … AIR! Humans and other animals need air to breath.

[SFX BREATH IN]

Air is one of the things that keeps us alive! And air can be found in nature - it covers and surrounds the entire planet.  So air is a natural resource.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back.

[Switch Bell]

Other examples of natural resources are oil, minerals, and plants. You can find oil, minerals and plants in different places on earth. Some places on earth have lots of forests and water, like the Redwood forest in California.

And some have no forest but have minerals, like … the Atacama desert in South America.

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

[Switch Bell]

You can use natural resources to make other stuff that people use … that other stuff is called “man made” - because huMANs made it!

So now that we know a little more about natural resources, it’s time to make a choice.

Which of these is NOT a natural resource?

Is it

Soil

Water

Or

Plastic

You’ll have to come back to Chompers tonight to find out. Until tonight, rinse with water before you…

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
