>> Rachel: Welcome back! It’s Poetry Week on Chompers!  Let’s get brushing! Start on the top of your mouth - pick a side, and make tiny circles with your brush on each tooth.

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1, BRUSH!

>> Rachel: We’ve learned that there are different types of poetry -- and that one of the things that makes a poem a certain type of poetry is what it’s ABOUT, or its SUBJECT.. Like pastoral poems are often about living in the country.  Today we’re going to solve some riddles about other types of poetry, and what they’re about!

We’ll get started after you switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth -- and brush your fronteeth too!

Here we go!

This type of poem will draw you in

It might talk about journeys and glory

It starts at the beginning and goes to the end

It’s an awful lot like a story.

 So what type of poems

>> Group: A NARRATIVE poem

(SFX yeahh)

>> Rachel: Narrative poems are poems that tell a story - you might meet different characters, travel to different places, and hear about a lot of different events!

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth and make sure you’re reaching your molars in the back!

Here’s your next riddle:

This type of poem is full of praise

For a person place or thing

You might write one about a really great friend

Your dog, your mom, or a king!

Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth and give your tongue a brush too!

So what type of poem is this?

>> Group: An ODE!

>> SFX KID: OHHH

>> Rachel: No, ODE. (SFX RIMSHOT)

An ODE is a type of poem that celebrates something.  A lot of times odes are written TO something. So if you wanted to tell Chompers how much you love us, you’d write us an ODE!

Speaking of Odes to Chompers, we’re all done brushing! So now it’s time to …

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1, SPIT!
