And you can find me in the ground

I could be a great discovery

You’ll learn lots when I am found!

What am I?

>> GROUP: A Fossil

>> RACHEL: A Fossil!

Fossils are one of the ways scientists learn about plants and animals of the past. I’ll tell you more about it after you Switch you brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth...

[SWITCH BELL]

>> RACHEL: -and make sure you brush your molars in the way back.

Fossil’s can be bones or eggs or even a footprint that gets stuck in the earth and buried over time.

Sometimes those things get covered up by the dirt or mud...

[MUD SQUISHING]

>> RACHEL: -and stay buried for hundreds of millions of years. Over time, more and more mud and dirt covers the fossils, and the bones end up deeper and deeper in the earth.
