>> Rachel: This week we’re going to be hearing folk tales from all around the world! Folk tales are stories that people have been telling each other for a long time.

But the reason these stories are so popular is because they help us understand the world. The stories might tell us what to do in a difficult situation, or give us advice about how to be a good friend.  That lesson is called the “moral of the story.”

Every day this week we’re going to hear a story from somewhere in the world. Today our story comes from Vietnam, a country in Asia, and it's called the story of The Fly.

Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth and keep brushing

Once upon a time there was a very rich man. The way the rich man made money was by lending it to poor people. (SFX Coins jiggling) But the poor people couldn’t borrow money unless they paid the rich man A LOT more money (SFX more coins) back than they borrowed. If a poor person borrowed money from the rich man, their debt to the rich man might make them more poor than they were before.

But the rich man didn't care. If people couldn’t pay him back, the rich man would barge into their home  and TAKE something.

One day the rich man went to a poor family’s house to get his money. But the only person who was home was a little boy, playing in the front yard.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back

“Hey you little boy”, the rich man shouted, “are your parents home?”

“No”, the little boy said, and he ignored the rich man, which made him angry.

“Little boy”, the rich man shouted again, “you HAVE to tell me where your parents are.”

But the little boy still said nothing. The rich man was FURIOUS!

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

“Little boy”, the rich man growled, “I came here to get my money but now you’re making me mad.  So if you tell me the truth, I will cancel your parents' debt. They will no longer owe me any money.”

Hmmmm. This could be a good deal.

But the little boy didn’t trust the rich man. What if the rich man went back on his promise?  The little boy realized he needed a WITNESS -- someone who also knew about the rich man’s promise.

And then the little boy noticed he and the rich man were not alone in the yard. There was a fly on steps, watching them (SFX FLY)

We’ll finish this folktale when you come back to brush your teeth tonight. Until then, rinse with water before you…
