>> Rachel: It’s History Week. Tonight we’re continuing to explore the history of Africa.

Here’s your first travel back in time:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

>> Rachel: Wow, I’ve landed back in the Middle Ages, in a beautiful city made of clay. It has streets and houses, and it’s surrounded by a massive wall that protects the people of the kingdom. It is huge, bigger larger than an Egyptian pyramid!

So time machine, where am I?

>> TIME MACHINE: The City of Benin!

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and brush the inside, outside, and chewing side of each tooth.

The city of Benin was the capital of the Benin Empire. It had beautiful mud and bronze sculptures and was a truly incredible work. It was built before humans had invented modern machines that made it easier to build entire cities. It was sadly destroyed by the British people when they came to invade the Empire. But at the time it was one of the most impressive cities ever built by humans.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and don’t forget your front teeth.

Here’s your next travel back in time:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

I’ve landed just in 1994 - so not that long ago! I’m in a country called South Africa. All right, let’s see what’s happening. A tall, elegant man is giving a speech in front of a huge crowd. He’s saying that they’re a new era for the country; he’s talking about a victory for all the people of South Africa! The crowd is cheering.

Who is this man? Who do I spy?

Find out after you switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and give your tongue a brush, too.

So who is this man?

>> TIME MACHINE: NELSON MANDELA.

>> Rachel: Nelson Mandela fought all his life for all people to have the same rights, no matter what the color of their skin.

And he succeeded! He became the first black President of South Africa to be chosen by EVERYONE - black people and white people together. Mandela also received a special prize called the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Peace Prize is given to people who help spread peace.

[THEME SONG BEGINS]

>> Rachel: That’s it for Chompers tonight. You did a good job brushing. Until next time…

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
